Emerson Supports Sustainability with Improved Cloud-Hosted Industrial Control Platform

Posted by Community Contributor on Mar 29, 2022 11:03:48 AM

AUSTIN, Texas (March 29, 2022) Zedi Cloud SCADA platform moves to Microsoft Azure for superior scalability and tighter security to help industries meet sustainability goals

Emerson, a global software, technology and engineering leader, has improved the scalability, data protection and threat intelligence of its Zedi™ Cloud SCADA software-as-a-service control platform by moving it to the Microsoft® Azure cloud platform. The more robust cloud host enables customers to securely scale their supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems quickly and easily to achieve environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments, better safeguard critical business assets, and empower users to adapt their operations to changing requirements while mitigating risks and operational costs.

Most industrial operations are challenged to efficiently meet cost reduction targets and demonstrate actions to attain sustainability goals. Emerson’s Zedi Cloud SCADA platform uses advanced automation and software, including proven machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence to build predictive models that lead to autonomous operations over time, helping support sustainability efforts in oil and gas, water/wastewater and other data-intensive industries. Critical data from those predictive models can then be stored in an operation’s data historian to more easily track and trend performance and emissions and demonstrate compliance to regulators.

“By moving to Azure, we can better provide managed IIoT services across the edge and cloud that easily connect, monitor and control assets around the world with multi-layered security, increased global data centers, and enhanced infrastructure,” said Nathan Pettus, president of Emerson’s process systems and software business. “The change improves Emerson’s already strong positioning to lead successful digital transformation efforts for several industries, providing solid and sustainable results with a vastly scalable, cloud-based solution that’s highly secure and extremely cost-effective.”

Zedi Cloud SCADA platform moves to Microsoft Azure for superior scalability and tighter security to help industries meet sustainability goals

The move to Microsoft Azure provides the best scalability and enterprise-level functionality of all available cloud platforms. Users can add or remove assets as needed to manage traffic spikes, which is particularly useful as organizations acquire other businesses and need to scale rapidly to accommodate new assets and bring them online quickly. Azure also provides greater hybrid cloud flexibility to enable users to work remotely while maximizing existing on-premises assets for a faster path to safe and effective autonomous operations.

“I'm excited to see our customers expand their use of Microsoft products,” said Gary Nafus, vice president, manufacturing, Microsoft U.S. “The ultimate win is building trust with our customers when they select our products for critical operations, as we aim to continue to empower their business and tech efforts. I look forward to seeing Emerson’s use of Microsoft Azure to help power their Zedi Cloud SCADA platform– improving performance, ultra-high data resolution, and more flexibility for increased scalable and collaborative work. ESG efforts are very important today and this expansion will help push those efforts forward in a strong way.”

The Zedi Cloud SCADA platform helps personnel manage advanced analytics in formats that present authorized end users with clear, easily understood data accessible in the cloud anytime from anywhere. This improved access to intuitive data enables easy remote monitoring of assets, helping users improve operational performance even in rugged, dangerous, or distant locations. Increased layers of cybersecurity and the more robust network afforded by the Azure platform enable customers to further protect data for advanced continuity of operations.

E&P Digital Solutions: The Hidden Costs of Self-Implemented Automation

Posted by Community Contributor on May 18, 2020 2:45:09 PM

The implementation of cloud-based automation services can deliver cost savings and increases in operational efficiencies for oil and gas producers.Cloud SCADA

May 13th 2020 – With capital tight and income stagnant, producers are increasingly looking to automation to boost efficiencies and reduce expenditures. But those goals are not automatically accomplished by buying some sensors, off-the-shelf SCADA software and an extra server.

In fact, in-house automation systems are very expensive compared to third-party, cloud-based versions in a number of ways, many of which are not obvious. This article addresses four areas in which outsourcing can be more efficient, including some costs of in-house systems that are not always included in the decision-making process.

Time to implement

Time is money, and for a company leaning on automation for cost savings, every day’s delay in implementation can cost thousands of dollars. But delays extending to months or years are common for in-house systems.

Zedi Welcomes News about a Smart Agri-Food SuperCluster

Posted by Community Contributor on Oct 13, 2017 10:32:12 AM

Calgary, AB - October 12, 2017 – Zedi welcomes the announcement yesterday that a Smart Agri-Food SuperCluster is one of nine supercluster proposals from across Canada that has been short-listed to receive a share of a federal investment of $950 million over 5 years into the innovation ecosystem. The announcement was made in Calgary this morning by the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development for the Government of Canada.

A Smart AgriFood SuperCluster proposal had been put together in response to an earlier government request for proposals, and a Letter of Intent was submitted by Lead Applicants that included Agrium, Olds College, and Telus. Zedi was one of a consortium of over 50 companies supporting the proposal. More on the announcement may be viewed at the Olds College web-site by clicking here.

This announcement follows an earlier announcement Zedi made in August about its entry into the AgriFood space through a number of customer projects.

“Zedi’s IIoT platform and capability in sourcing data from rural locations will be important in providing SuperCluster participants with sensor-sourced data that forms the bedrock for innovation”, says James Freeman, CTO & President, New Ventures. “We look forward to lending our expertise to helping create the critical IIoT infrastructure with a distinguished set of partners from the AgriFood Industry.”

Zedi and the rest of the consortium that backed the proposal will now work per government deadlines to more fully develop a proposal by November 24 to win final approval to proceed.

In Canada and the US the primary agriculture, input dealers, and equipment suppliers represent $420 billion in annual GDP (2016 figures). Canada is the world’s 5th largest Agriculture and AgriFood System (AAFS) exporter, while the US is 2nd. In its February 2017 tranche of reports, the Advisory Council on Economic Growth highlighted the AgriFood sector as a high-potential sector for Canada, and challenges facing the AgriFood industry throughout North America – traceability for food quality and nutrition, productivity, GHG reduction, sustainability in the face of climate change – can all benefit from the application of IIoT technology like Zedi’s as part of the “Smart Agriculture” transformation.

Zedi Closes Significant Deal with Crescent Point Energy for Artificial Lift Technology

Posted by Community User on Jan 21, 2013 1:20:00 AM

CALGARY, ALBERTA (Marketwire – January 21, 2013) – Zedi Inc. (the "Company" or “Zedi”) (TSX VENTURE: ZED) - Zedi completed a purchase agreement in late December 2012 with Crescent Point Energy (“Crescent Point”) to equip Crescent Point’s new drill program near Viking, Alberta, with the Zedi SilverJack artificial lift system. Crescent Point also agreed to purchase Zedi Oil Well Test for nearly 250 active well sites. This purchase represents a significant investment in Zedi’s oil offerings.

“Crescent Point is always eager to find innovative methods to improve production and deploy field technology”, says Neil Smith, Vice President Engineering and Business Development from Crescent Point Energy. “We’ve adopted Zedi SilverJack because our installation time is now hours instead of days, and our operations team finds the control panel easy to use both at the well and remotely. This flexibility improves our overall performance and saves costs.”

Crescent Point will begin testing their wells using Zedi’s Oil Well Test in the first quarter of 2013. Zedi Oil Well Test is expected to allow for the completion of more tests with less effort, which is expected to reduce the frequency of orifice plate changes and eliminate data errors that happen if an operator is not able to be on site at a specific time. The deployment of this new technology is expected to help Crescent Point meet their 2013 growth goals.

Zedi Inc. (TSX VENTURE: ZED) helps the world’s oil and gas producers be more productive, more profitable, and more sustainable through technology backed by expert consultation and services. Our 60 years of continuous operations in North America and recognition as one of the industry’s best workplaces, sets us apart in the production operations landscape. With our unique combination of award-winning automation, data management, and field and professional services, we offer solutions to our customers’ challenges and help them realize their production potential.
