Zedi Provides Support for Alberta’s Polytechnic Institutes

Posted by Community Contributor on May 9, 2017 11:13:32 AM

Calgary, AB (May 8, 2017) – Zedi is pleased to announce today that it recently closed Donor Agreements with both the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).  In the agreements, Zedi will provide its Smart-AlekTM electronic gas flow measurement devices combined with access to Zedi AccessTM, Zedi’s award-winning cloud-based software solution, to support course development and delivery in Instrumentation and Petroleum Engineering technology programs.

“We employ many graduates of Alberta’s polytechnic Institutes, and are honoured to play a supportive role in the educational community by providing lead-edge technology for students and staff to support,” said James Freeman, Zedi CTO and President, New Ventures.

“We are thrilled to have Zedi’s continued support in providing our students with leading-edge technology that they can expect to use when they enter the workforce. Through hands-on experience with Zedi’s devices and software, our instrumentation, petroleum engineering, computer engineering and wireless systems engineering students will be acquainted with the future of the industry. They’ll be primed to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact,” said Stewart Cook, Dean, School of Applied Sciences and Technology at NAIT.

“Student success is at the core of SAIT’s global leadership in applied-education. We are grateful for the support from Zedi.  Incorporating innovative industry partnerships into SAIT learning helps us keep our programs relevant, ensuring our students are career-ready when they graduate,” says Heather Magotiaux, Vice President, External Relations, SAIT.

Zedi is also providing LoRa Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) gateways for installation on the main campuses of both NAIT and SAIT.  These gateways will consist of a MultiTech MultiConnect® Conduit™ gateway running Zedi’s Field Gateway Edge Server Software (FGES).  They will create an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) hotspot on both campuses to support applied research into IIoT sensors, prototyping, pre-commercial work, and student projects.  Sensors and devices connected to the LPWAN will report their data into Zedi AccessTM.  “Creating a work-force and economy around IIoT is a strategic growth opportunity for Alberta.  Zedi is pleased to be lending its years of experience in running a large IIoT network for customers in the Oil & Gas industry to help the next generation of knowledge workers solve practical real-world problems”, said James.  “We recently completed a Capstone project with NAIT students, and there was a real aptitude and appetite for working with these technologies”.

As a final contribution to both institutions, Zedi is contributing additional funding to support Capstone project work and Bursaries or Scholarships.
