Cloud-based gas distribution management builds customer trust

For gas regulators, the need to replace IT systems can be for various reasons. Their system no longer serves their business operations, wants to launch new initiatives, or unexpected events make them re-evaluate the need for a reliable backup system.

According to local power companies, more than 4.4 million customers were without power in the winter of 2021 deep freeze in Houston, Texas. Cold weather shut natural gas production and pipelines, which refineries use in power generation. Widespread power outages and instability of external power supply forced shutdowns across the state.

With a secure internet connection, regulators can quickly gain visibility to continue operations during unpredictable events when they integrate Emerson's Zedi Cloud SCADA, a scalable cloud-based platform that supports digital monitoring hardware for real-time operational data.

Cloud-based Platform

The Zedi Cloud SCADA platform can act as a primary or secondary SCADA system to monitor and control your gas distribution system.

Our platform can help regulators protect people, assets, and equipment by strategically placing pressure monitoring points throughout the distribution network to assists with on-time alerts and triggers prompt reactive measures.

We offer evergreen enhancements, Zedi Go mobile app, alarms, and reporting capabilities for remote control and monitoring so regulators can effectively monitor operations during any situation.

Managing your gas distribution system in the cloud also allows for regulators to meet new safety regulations set by the government,

On December 27, 2020, the US President signed into law pipeline safety re-authorization legislation, "Protecting our Infrastructure of Pipelines and Enhancing Safety (PIPES Act) of 2020" (Division R on Pg. 167).

Included within this act are new mandates for PHMSA that require operators to update, as needed, their existing distribution integrity management plans, emergency response plans, and O&M plans. The act also requires operators to manage records and update, as necessary, their existing district regulator stations to eliminate a common mode of failure. Source: American Gas Association

Using a cloud platform will allow you to centralize and manage your data when system failures occur so you can continue to meet new regulations.

Switch over made easy

We can quickly help our Customers switch over to a cloud-based strategy that offers:

  • Reduced costs
  • The chance to capitalize on far greater resources provided by a single vendor cloud provider
  • Run data-intensive computing tasks
  • Replacements for aging back-office legacy systems
  • Flexibility to scale up or down according to business requirements
  • Easily handle vast volumes of data coming from IIoT sensors
  • Resources to use of artificial intelligence and other systems that identify business opportunities and solve operational problems
  • Meet new regulations, which requires regulators to have different methods to avoid the over-pressure of pipelines
  • Increase public safety
Cloud iconRethinking your gas distribution operations by integrating a SCADA cloud platform allows regulators to be better prepared to ensure reduced downtime and enhanced public safety for customers.
